TEXT: “For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come” (1Tim 4:8)

OPENING PRAYER: “Father, I recognize the transformative power of your Word. As I read today’s Morning Tea Devotional, I ask that your Word penetrate my heart and mind, transforming my life and shaping my destiny, in Jesus name – Amen.”

Be reminded that this month, in the MTD Family, we’re focusing on “Undeniable Profits.” In our journey in life, God’s plan is that we enjoy profit in all areas of life. He said He will teach our hands to profit (Isaiah 48:17). Today’s anchor scripture reveals that godliness guarantees profit in every area of life. It says: “Godliness is profitable unto all things.” If anything is profitable, it means it pays a great deal.

Living for God, which is godliness, is the most profitable life one can ever live. The Bible says that it is profitable unto all things (1Tim 4:8). Some may argue that serving God only yields rewards in the life after now, with little to show for it in this present life. However, Apostle Paul counters this notion, he said, ‘Godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is…’ (1Tim 4:8). The phrase ‘the life that now is’ refers to our present life, distinguishing it from the life to come.

Godliness is highly profitable, it guarantees all round profits in the now and eternity with God. We must therfore put up a fight against every form of ungodliness if we don’t want to live under the oppression of sin perpetually.

Godliness involves living according to God’s will, cultivating a deep relationship with God, embodying Christ-like character, and seeking to honour God in all aspects of life.

How is godliness profitable in the now?

  • Godliness fuels promotion. Consider Joseph’s story. Despite being sold into captivity and imprisoned, God blessed him throughout (Gen 37 & 39). Normally, years of imprisonment would embitter someone. However, Joseph’s faithfulness to living a godly life led to his extraordinary promotion from God. God elevated him to become Prime Minister of the greatest nation of that time (Gen 41:38-41).

Did it pay him to be faithful to God? Did godliness pay off for Joseph? Did it pay him to say “No!” to his master’s wife when she tried to seduce him (Gen 39:7-9)? Yes! Joseph spent years in prison. Most men would have given up on God by then but not Joseph. God may not pay you the day you expect Him but, I want you to know that someday payday in God is coming!

In summary, Joseph’s story teaches us that:

  1. Adversity doesn’t define one’s destiny.
  2. Faithfulness to God precedes promotion from Him.
  3. Godly lifestyle guarantees divine elevation.

My prayer for all of us in the MTD Family is that Joseph’s story will inspire us to be steadfast in our commitment to godliness, trusting God for promotion, in Jesus name.
