TEXT: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened” (Matt 7:7-8)
- PRAYER: “Father, thank you because your Word has the power to transform. As I read today’s Morning Tea Devotional, let your Word penetrate my heart and mind, transforming my life into a better one, in Jesus name – Amen.”
As we approach the new year, it’s important to prepare ourselves through prayer. Prayer is an important key that helps us to connect with God and be sensitive to His instructions. I want to outline why this is needful. This is to help us embrace the new year with a sense of responsibility.
Prayer preparation is crucial for the following reasons among others:
- Prayer helps us to seek God’s guidance and direction for the new year. The Bible says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths” (Prov 3:5-6).
- Prayer helps us to align ourselves with God’s will for the new year. The Bible says: “This is the confidence that we have in Him: that if we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us” (1John 5:14)
Here are some practical steps:
- Set aside some days to fast and pray for guidance and direction for the new year. Psalm 46:10 says: “Be still, and know that I am God.” When you’re still in His Presence through prayer, He will show you His plan for the new year.
- Reflect on the current year, acknowledging what God helps you to achieve, your challenges, and areas you need to improve upon. Psalm 119:59 – NLT says: “I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your statutes.”
- Seek God’s face for wisdom, clarity, and His purpose for your life for the new year. James 1:5 – NIV says: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Beloved, prayer preparation towards the new year is vital. By setting aside time to pray, reflecting on the current year and seeking God’s guidance, you can enter the new year with confidence, hope, and faith.
