TEXT: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits” (Psalms 103:2)
Thanksgiving is a mystery that puts us above any situation in life. It is one of the major secrets of life and the cheapest way to live under any circumstance. Bishop David Oyedepo said: “Thanksgiving adds colour to our Christian experience.” And it is true because, with thanksgiving everything negative around us begins to respond positively.
WHAT IS THANKSGIVING?
Thanksgiving simply means giving glory to God for His mighty deeds in our life. Just as the one leper who returned to give thanks was made whole, God desires us to acknowledge and glorify Him for every blessing, provision, and miracle in our lives, that we may experience wholeness in all areas of our life.
“And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole” (Luke 11:17-19).
Beloved, every time you see the finger of God in and around you, it requires your thanksgiving and praise.
WHY DO WE GIVE THANKS?
- It guarantees multiplication.
For everything that must increase, God must be acknowledged and appreciated. Jesus knew this secret and used it often during His earthly ministry. Anything we do not thank God for never increases. “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would” (John 6:11). As soon as He gave thanks, food came from wherever it was and twelve baskets were gathered as remnants. As you practice this today, you shall return with your testimony of multiplication today, in Jesus name.
