ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: “And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49)
- PERSONAL PRAYER: “Father, thank you for the power in Your Word that transforms. May the Morning Tea Devotional today transform my life and destiny, in Jesus name – Amen.”
Looking at Acts 1:8, we see Jesus giving the disciples an assignment to take the gospel to the end of the earth. However, there was a requirement for fulfilling this assignment found in today’s anchor scripture. He said: “….but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until you be endued with power from on high.”
What is the significance of this instruction?
- Tarrying, in this context, means waiting. Beloved, we live in a generation where everybody is in a hurry. Nobody wants to wait. The Bible says in Proverbs 28:20: “A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste shall not be innocent.” Beloved, if you must operate in power, tarry with God, don’t be in a hurry. Those who are in haste, instead of waiting, can not be innocent. This is why we have fake powers on our altars today.
- Tarrying also connotes fasting. This is what David meant when he said, “…my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is…To see thy power, oh God” (Psalm 63:1-2). You cannot operate in power when you are lazy in fasting. Jesus said: “This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting” (Mark 9:29).
So, if you don’t want to operate in counterfeit power, then be in the waiting room of God – in prayers and fasting, and the genuine Power of God from on high shall rest upon you suddenly.
PROPHETIC PRAYER: Grace to tarry with God until you are endued, is yours today, in Jesus name.
