TEXT: “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up” (James 4:10)
OPENING PRAYER: “Father, I acknowledge that Your Word holds the power to transform lives. As I read today’s MTD, I ask that it transform my life and shape my destiny. By the Power in your Word, above only shall be my experience all through this month and onwards, in Jesus name – Amen.” (Pls ensure you pray this prayer with faith)
Let’s examine another crucial attitude we must cultivate to attract the manifest Presence of God, using the life of our Saviour Jesus Christ as an example. Since Jesus had the Spirit of God without measure, it’s essential to discover how He consistently attracted the Presence of God to such a great magnitude.
You may think it’s because He is the Son of God, but so are you (John 1:12). You may also say it’s because He is the Christ; however, the Bible says we have also put on Christ and are one with Him (Gal 3:27). The point is, it is possible for us to attract and retain the Presence of God like Jesus did.
ATTITUDE OF HUMILITY
Jesus’ humility was the attitude that drew the Presence of God to Him. Biblically, humility is a quality of heart and mind that recognizes one’s dependence on God, and submits to His will. Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John, despite John’s initial reluctance. Jesus’ insistence led to a remarkable outcome: the heavens opened, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in the form of a dove, and God declared Jesus as His beloved Son from heaven (Matt 3:13-17). By humbling Himself, Jesus attracted God’s Presence and positioned Himself for divine affirmation and approval.
Let me show you three lesson I drew from this:
- Jesus’ action teaches us that true greatness is not in exalting ourselves, but in humbling ourselves.
- Jesus’ humility led Him to surrender to God’s plan and obey John’s baptism. This teaches us to surrender our will to God’s and obey His leading.
- God declared Jesus as His beloved Son after His humble act, showing us that humility can bring divine affirmation and approval.
In a nutshell, Jesus’ submission to John’s baptism, despite being the Son of God, demonstrates that humility is a key attitude that attract God’s Presence, God’s approval, and empowerment in our lives.
