TEXT: “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went” (Heb 11:8)
OPENING PRAYER: “Father, thank you because your Word has the power to transform. As I read today’s Morning Tea Devotional, let your Word penetrate my heart and mind, transforming my life and shaping my destiny, in Jesus name – Amen.” (Ensure you pray this prayer before proceeding).
Let’s examine one virtue from Abraham and that virtue is obedience. Abraham’s obedience is a remarkable virtue. As a man who obeyed God, he was promoted to become the father of nations. This promotion was a direct result of his obedience.
For you to go far in life, you must learn timely obedience to divine instructions. Abraham’s story illustrates this truth. In Genesis 12 verse 4, Abraham obeyed God, leaving behind everything for an unknown land. Similarly, Genesis 22 verses 16-18 records his willingness to sacrifice Isaac, demonstrating his unwavering obedience to divine instruction. This obedience brought Abraham immense blessings as seen in Genesis 24:1 that says: “Abraham was old and well stricken in age, and the Lord had blessed him in all things.” This verse summarizes the divine lifting Abraham experienced throughout his life.
Beloved, what are you willing to sacrifice for your own lifting? In the kingdom of God, promotion comes with a price of obedience. That is, the ability to release to God as commanded and not as convenient. It was not convenient for Abraham to leave the known place and people for the unknown place. But he chose obedience to God at the expense of his convenience. If you will enjoy divine promotion or lifting like Abraham, obedience to God must be your priority.
Abraham is commended in Hebrews 11 for his faith-driven obedience, not for his wealth or material possessions, but solely because he obeyed God. And do you know what? Abraham’s obedience was demonstrated without the written Word (Bible).
If Abraham could obey God without the written Word, how much more should we, with the Bible as our guide, obey Him?
Think about this!
