TEXT: “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” (1Tim 6:6-7)
It’s another day that the Lord shall perfect all that concerns you. I perceive in my spirit that today the Lord will complement your labour with favour, in Jesus name.
I want us to examine another hindrance to genuine praise. This is important because what you don’t know is bigger than you. Knowing these hindrances will help us to avoid them.
- DISCONTENTMENT
Discontentment is a hindrance to genuine praise. When I say genuine praise I mean praise that has the capacity to change your story for good. Your praise cannot produce result if this hindrance is not removed. Discontentment is a lack of satisfaction with one’s possessions, status, or level in life. When you are not satisfied with the level and the pace at which God is taking you in life, it will hinder the flow of genuine praise from your lips. Discontentment leads to downfall of a man, the reason is because behind every discontentment is pride.
Yes, discontentment is a manifestation of pride. Discontentment flows from a heart that says, “I deserve better than what God has given me.” This was the original sin of Satan himself. In the book of Jude, we have a record of angels who, like Satan, were not contented to be the servants of God. The Bible says “they kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation” (Jude 6).
It was pride that led the angels to say, “We deserve better than what God has given to us.” God gave them positions of authority, but they were not contented. One man of God said: “The devil is the proudest creature and the most discontented because pride and discontentment lodge under one roof.”
Don’t compare yourself with anyone else if you don’t want to live a discontented life. Don’t crave for a car or a house because someone else has one. Be satisfied with God at every stage of your life. Stop competing with people of the world; they don’t worth competing with. Today’s anchor scripture says: “But godliness with contentment is great gain” (1Tim 6:6).
People are rating the worth and quality of life with physical possessions. This is unscriptural. Contentment is the cure for covetousness. Put an end to it in your life today. Remember, the Israelites grumbled because, rather than concentrate on what God was doing, they concentrated on what they thought God wasn’t doing! This is a trick of the devil to rob one of genuine praise. Don’t fall victim of this trap!
PRAY THIS PRAYER: Lord, help me to trust in you and find contentment in you rather than in material possessions, wealth or anything else, in Jesus name.
IT IS DONE IN JESUS NAME!
TODAY’S TASK:
Ensure you give to God at least 30mins uninterrupted praise today! Wonders shall be your new experience this month, in Jesus name.
DAILY CONFESSION:
This year 2024, I am advancing in adversity because I’ve been redeemed to flourish in hard times therefore my life shall be full of wonders. Amen and amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: “Contentment is the cure for covetousness!”
