TEXT: “But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness” (1Tim 6:11)
OPENING PRAYER: “Father, I recognize the transformative power of your Word. As I read today’s Morning Tea Devotional, I ask that your Word penetrate my heart and mind, transforming my life and shaping my destiny, in Jesus name – Amen.”
I want to start by saying that God’s Word is full of His instructions, which, when followed wholeheartedly, make our lives profitable. The Bible says, ‘All Scripture is profitable…’ This means that God’s Word is filled with divine instructions that, when obeyed, bring us undeniable profits.
Today’s anchor scripture contains God’s instructions to us. It says we should flee from these things and follow after those that make life profitable. One of the things we must pursue, as mentioned in the scripture, is godliness. What we follow determines what follows us. No one who follows God ends in shame or reproach. Living godly means being full of God in all our dealings. The gains of godliness outweigh the smartness of the smartest; its benefits are unmatched.
The word ‘godly’ is a two-sided coin; one side represents reverence, and the other, fear. So, a godly person is someone who fears God, and have profound reverence for Him. Beloved, if you’re a godly person, you will be uncomfortable doing certain things because you don’t want to offend God. There will be places you cannot go and companies you cannot keep. This mindset is what helped Joseph to escape the devil’s traps on his path to success.
As a godly person, your commitment to truth will always lead you to demonstrate integrity through honesty and transparency. As a godly person, your desire should be to live a clean and whole life free from corruption and compromise. Your desire for godliness will always lead you to avoid and resist temptations that would pollute or weaken your character.
Living an ungodly lifestyle has severe consequences, including hindering your destiny. Ungodly acts can destroy your future if left unchecked. Consider Joseph’s example: his fear of God empowered him to resist temptation, preserving his destiny. When faced with sin, Joseph declared, ‘How can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?‘ (Gen 39:9).
ACTION STEP:
To safeguard your destiny, have the fear of God. Stand firm against temptation, knowing that your righteousness will be tested. Avoid destructive paths, knowing that your choices today shape your tomorrow.
PRAYER: That secret sin will not burry your destiny. You are free from it today, in Jesus name.
