ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
“Quench not the Spirit” (1Thes 5:19)
Beloved, the Holy Spirit desires to guide and do His work in our lives, but Scripture warns us to be careful not to quench Him. To quench the Spirit means to repeatedly resist, ignore, or suppress His leading, promptings, and instructions.
To avoid quenching the Spirit of God, below are the 3 practical ways:
- Obey His promptings immediately. When you feel prompted to pray, give, forgive, or reach out to someone, do not always postpone it. If the promptings agree with God’s Word, respond in obedience immediately. Prompt obedience keeps our hearts tender and helps us grow in our walk with God.
- Deal with sin quickly. One of the ministries of the Holy Spirit is to convict believers when they go astray. When He points out an attitude, habit, or action that displeases God, beloved, don’t ignore, excuse, or defend it. Instead, acknowledge your mistake and repent sincerely. The longer sin is tolerated, the more it hinders our fellowship with God.
- Create time to hear from God. Every relationship thrives on consistent communication, and our relationship with the Holy Spirit is no different. Make it a priority to spend time daily in prayer, worship, meditation, and the study of God’s Word. In a world filled with noise and distractions, deliberately create quiet moments where you can focus on God and God alone.
Beloved, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit grows through obedience. Do not keep ignoring His promptings. Respond to Him, obey Him, and make room for His Presence in your daily life.
PROPHETIC PRAYER:
Grace to obey the Holy Spirit’s promptings promptly is yours today, in Jesus name.
