TEXT: “There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Gen 39:9)

OPENING PRAYER: “Father, I recognize that your Word has the power to transform. As I read today’s Morning Tea Devotional, I ask that it penetrate my heart and mind, transforming my life and shaping my destiny, in Jesus name – Amen.”

Yesterday, we began exploring the stories of biblical figures who experienced divine lifting. We identified some key traits that prepared them for God’s promotion. Let’s examine another trait today as we trust God to help us to apply it to our own lives in preparing ourselves for His lifting.

One of the traits found in one of the Bible characters, Joseph, is Self-Control. Joseph demonstrated self-control despite facing immense challenges and unfair circumstances.

To experience divine lifting beloved, you need to demonstrate self-control. Self-control refers to the ability to manage and regulate one’s thoughts, feelings, and actions. It enables you to resist harmful or destructive behaviours, build strong and healthy relationships, and develop resilience and perseverance. Despite Potiphar’s wife’s advances, Joseph stood firm, upholding his integrity and his faithfulness to God. Though temporarily imprisoned, he persevered, knowing that all things work together for good to them that love God.

God allowed Joseph to go through those horrible experiences as part of training him for the promotion ahead. He lived his life to please God, specifically making no provision for the flesh. The Bible says: “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.” (Rom 13:14).

Joseph lost his coat but he kept his character. When people fail to learn the discipline of self-control they find themselves on the ground. Do you want God to lift you the way He lifted Joseph? Keep your character. Mortify the deeds of the flesh. Don’t give in to that temptation. Don’t let your momentary situation put you in permanent regret. Have self control!
