TEXT: “…but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise” (2Cor 10:12b)
We looked at Hopelessness as one of the enemies of thanksgiving last week Friday. I emphasised that when someone’s hope is crushed by the devil, it will choke his/her thankful heart. When you’re hopeful you will be thankful.
Another enemy of thanksgiving is:
- COMPARISON.
I want you to understand this morning that you’re uniquely made to carry out unique assignment to your generation. No lane is assigned to two runners in a race, every runner must stick to his lane before he can be considered a winner. Many people today are running in another person’s lane because of comparison. Comparing your assignment with someone else’s is not wisdom according to today’s anchor scripture. Beloved, don’t measure your success in life with another person’s success. God and His instructions to you should be your sole measurement. You know why some are depressed today? They use the success of another person to judge their life.
You must understand who you are and what you are sent here on earth to do and face it squarely. If you understand who you are in the programme of God, it will help you to appreciate Him. Don’t be intimidated by the successes of others. Move with God at your pace. Be contented with the way God is taking you. The Bible says: “Godliness with contentment is great gain” (1Tim 6:6). Don’t allow the plague of comparison to rob you of your gratefulness.
Don’t please others to displease yourself. Don’t be involved in anything that will not give glory to God just because you want to please man. Give thanks to God for what He’s doing in the lives of others, so He can do your own but don’t be depressed if yours hasn’t come. If your mates have gone ahead of you in any way; keep at your own pace by thanking God in every level you find yourself, soon and very soon, you will get to your own destination!
PRAYER: You will arrive at your destination no matter the obstacle in Jesus name!
