TEXT: “…Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams” (1Sam 15:22b)
Repeat this prayer after me: “Father, I acknowledge that Your Word holds the power to transform lives. As I read Your Word today, I ask that it transform my life and shape my destiny. By the Power in your Word, above only shall be my experience all through this month and onwards, in Jesus name. Amen.”
Today, I want to begin by saying that obedience to God is the pillar that keeps us above only. Deut 28:13, our anchor scripture for the month, drives this point home: “And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; IF THOU HEARKEN UNTO THE COMMANDMENTS OF THE LORD THY GOD, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them.” This verse emphasizes that to live above only, our obedience to God must be consistent and unwavering.
However, there is a spirit of obedience that makes obeying God’s instructions easier. When it’s at work in you, obeying God’s instructions becomes a natural response. This spirit enables you to obey God without questioning. Obedience is not a cheap talk, it is a hard work. The Bible says: “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work…” (James 1:25). Did you see that? There is work to be done to climb the ladder of obedience. We need the spirit of obedience therefore, to stay obedient to God.
What is obedience? Obedience is carrying out instructions as commanded, not just when it’s convenient. You cannot choose when to obey God and when not to obey Him. Your obedience to God’s commands must be both timely and total.
Why do we need the spirit of obedience?
- One of the reasons we need the spirit of obedience is that God’s instructions often seem senseless and risky. To comply with instructions that may appear ridiculous, you need the spirit of obedience. Many of us don’t have problem hearing God’s voice; our challenge lies in obeying Him.
- Another reason we need the spirit of obedience is that Satan is aware that obedience pleases God and is the master key to our lifting. Satan doesn’t want us to experience that. So, he feels our mind with canality and tricks us from obeying God. We know from the Word of God that disobedience leads to backwardness, while obedience leads to progress (Read Jer 7:23-24). Obedience is a key to our Above Only experience.
ACTION STEP:
Whatever God instructs you to do today, obey Him quickly and watch as He takes you to heights you never thought possible.
PRAYER: In the name of Jesus, I rebuke every spirit of disobedience that tries to rob you of your Above Only experience.
