TEXT: “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Gen 12:3)

OPENING PRAYER: Father, I recognize the transformative power of your Word. As I read today’s Morning Tea Devotional, I ask that your Word penetrate my heart and mind, transforming my life and shaping my destiny, in Jesus name – Amen.”

From Scripture, we understand that God wants us to enjoy all-round profits through His blessing upon our lives. However, why does God want us to be blessed? Is it so we can amass wealth for ourselves or feel great about ourselves? Or are there other reasons? We need to understand God’s reasons behind His blessing. Myles Munroe of blessed memory once said, “When a purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable.”

The truth is, God blesses us, not merely for personal gain, but to empower us to bless others. God’s blessing isn’t meant for selfish indulgence, but to overflow into the lives of those around us. In fact, the depth of God’s blessing in your life is directly tied to your commitment to being a blessing to others. Abraham’s story illustrates this: he wasn’t just blessed; his blessing extended to generations that followed. God said to him: “…in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Gen 12:3).

During the famine in Samaria, where desperation knew no bounds, four lepers, confronted with imminent starvation and death, took a courageous risk by entering the enemy’s camp. There, they stumbled upon a miracle: God had driven the enemy away, leaving behind an abundance of food, treasure, and supplies, miraculously fulfilling Elisha’s prophecy of sudden provision (Read 2Kings 7).

But then their consciences began to prick them. They said: “We’re not doing right. This is a day of good news, but we are keeping silent” (2Kings 7:9). So they went and told the starving city where they could find abundant supplies to satisfy their needs.

Beloved, God will not bless you just for you to accumulate wealth. The life of a man does not consist in the abundance of things he has (Lk 12:15). God will only bless you if you’re ready to be a distributor and not an accumulator. God will only bless you so that you can be a channel of blessing to others like the four lepers.

God’s blessing upon your life isn’t intended for personal indulgence alone, but to enable you to be a blessing to those around you.
