TEXT: “Indeed, a fool’s laughter is quickly gone, like thorns crackling in a fire. This also is meaningless” (Eccl 7:6 – NLT)
- PRAYER: “Father, thank you because your Word has the power to transform. As I read today’s Morning Tea Devotional, let your Word penetrate my heart and mind, transforming my life into a better one, in Jesus name – Amen.”
King Solomon, the writer of the above anchor scripture, used a powerful metaphor to describe the laughter of the fool. He compared it to the brief, loud sound of thorns burning in the fire. This sound is intense but short-lived and lacks substance.
In the same way, the laughter of someone without Jesus may seem intense and joyful, but it’s actually empty and short-lived. Even in the midst of laughter, their heart will still be filled with sorrow and pain.
Many people today try to find happiness in worldly pleasures like partying, drinking, womanising or other temporary pleasures. But as Proverbs 14:13 says, “Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that joy is heaviness.”
The truth is, without Jesus, life is empty and painful. When problems arise, there’s no one to turn to for guidance and support. When death comes, there’s no one to accompany you. And when judgment comes, there’s no one to advocate for you.
Worldly pleasures may bring brief moments of joy, but they can’t replace the joy and fulfillment that comes from knowing Jesus. Without Jesus, life is full of emptiness, sadness, and miserable.
The good news is that Jesus offers a different kind of laughter – a laughter that is lasting, joyful, and fulfilling. Psalm 126:2 says: “Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.”
If you’re tired of empty laughter and want to experience the joy that only Jesus can bring, surrender your life to Him today.
SAY THIS PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, I’m a sinner, please forgive me. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. Come into my heart and be my Lord and Saviour. Thank you for saving me – Amen.
