ANCHOR SCRIPTURES: “The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre…And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus…Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master” (Read John 20:1-16 to get the full story)
- PERSONAL PRAYER: “Father, thank you for the power in Your Word that transforms. May the Morning Tea Devotional today transform my life and destiny, in Jesus name – Amen.”
Happy Easter celebration once again. This season shall establish your victory over issues of life, in Jesus name.
Today, being the Easter Monday, I want us to examine a moment when Mary Magdalene met Jesus after He rose from the dead. What lessons can we learn form this encounter? Follow me closely!
After Jesus rose from the dead, Mary Magdalene was the first person to see Him (John 20). She went to the tomb early in the morning and found it empty. She ran to tell the disciples, Peter and John, who then ran to the tomb to see for themselves.
When they arrived, they saw the linen cloths that Jesus’ body had been wrapped in, lying on the ground. They also saw the napkin that had been on Jesus’ head, folded up and placed separate from the other cloths showing a sign that Jesus had risen from the dead, just as He had said.
But Mary didn’t just see the empty tomb and the cloths, she saw Jesus Himself, standing in front of her – hallelujah! She was so excited and overwhelmed that she tried to touch Him, but Jesus said, “Don’t touch me yet, Mary. I need to go to my Father first” (verse 17). Jesus was telling Mary that He had to complete His mission and fulfill His purpose first.
Peter and John didn’t see Jesus because they did not tarry enough. They just saw the empty tomb and the cloths, and then they went home, they were satisfied with just seeing the empty tomb. But Mary pressed on, she was desperate, she tarried longer, and she cried, and behold, here was Jesus standing behind her.
Here is the lesson: If we will see Jesus in His risen nature and encounter God beyond the story we read in the Bible, we need to be desperate for Him. We need to seek Him with passion and hunger. We need to tarry long enough on the altar of prayer, even when it’s hard and uncomfortable. This is because God doesn’t just show Himself to people. He shows Himself to those who seek Him with all their heart. He reveals Himself to those who are desperate for Him.
So, like Mary, let’s seek God with passion and hunger. Let’s tarry enough in prayer, even when it’s not convenient. Let’s be desperate for Him, and we shall see more of His glory and Presence in our lives, in the name of Jesus Christ.
