TEXT: “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations” (Psalm 100:4-5)
Let me start by saying that obtaining God’s favour is a wonderful experience, but it is just the beginning. It is like receiving a precious gift, but the gift is only valuable if you take care of it and nurture it. Obtaining God’s favour is a blessing, but sustaining it is a choice. Yes, sustaining God’s favour requires effort, dedication, and a willingness to continue growing in your relationship with God.
Today, let’s examine two important ways to sustain the favour of God on our life.
1. ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE: There is so much to thank God for even in hard times and our gratefulness always draws down the favour of God. For example, the gift of life, good health, our families, the little we have, are all grounds for thanking God. The Psalmist was very good at this as this example shows: “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagles” (Ps 103:1-5).
When you see an evidence of God’s goodness and favour in the life of your friend, neighbour, colleague, etc, don’t envy or be jealous of him or her. Rather, maintain a spirit of gratitude. What you thank God for in the lives of others will also happen in your own life.
2. PRIORITISE SPIRITUAL GROWTH: To sustain God’s favour on your life, it is essential to prioritize spiritual growth over intellectual pursuits. The reason is because spiritual growth focuses on deepening your relationship with God, while intellectual pursuits focus on expanding your knowledge. While knowledge is important, it’s limited and can become idolatrous if prioritized over your relationship with God. The sustainability of the favour of God on your life will be highly influenced by your spirituality.
PRAYER: You will not lose your favour anymore, in Jesus name.
DAILY CONFESSION:
This year 2024, I am advancing in adversity because I’ve been redeemed to flourish in hard times therefore my life shall be full of wonders. Amen and amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: “Obtaining God’s favour is a blessing, but sustaining it is a choice.”
