TEXT: “Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey” (Acts 1:12)
If you will fulfil the purpose of God for your life, you need the Power of the Holy Spirit. It takes the Power of the Holy Spirit to rule, to reign and to fulfil destiny. If this is so, then it is vital we know the secrets to this Power.
Yes, there are secrets to the power of God. Some scholars believe that the acts of the apostles should have been called the acts of the Holy Spirit. In the book of Acts of the Apostles are practical demonstrations of the power of the Holy Spirit through the lives of the apostles. I’ve taken time to study this book and have found in it various secrets to the Power of God. I want us to look at one of them today.
In Acts chapter 2, the disciples received the promise of the Holy Spirit when they returned as stated in today’s text. “And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:3-4).
After the Ascension of our Lord Jesus, the disciples took a deliberate step to obtain this promised Power. What step? The Bible says: “They returned to Jerusalem.” Dear child of God, this is a significant step into the school of power. If you will experience the Power of the Holy Spirit in your life, this step must not be ignored.
Jerusalem is a symbol of the house of God, which is also the Presence of God. The meaning is that the disciples returned to the house of God/the Presence of God. They did not return to club houses, brothel or to their homes to sleep. They returned to the house of God agonizing for the release of Power, a picture of what king David did (Psalms 63:1).
Beloved, your environment determines the power that will be at work in you. The house of God/Church must not be a place you go only when it’s convenient for you? Don’t be so occupied with activities that you don’t have time with God. To operate in Power like the disciples, you must return to God’s Presence and remain there. They returned to Jerusalem. Don’t abandon your fellowship with brethren beloved. Create enough time daily to have fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Don’t be carried away with activities that do not profit you.
The Bible says: “Behold, how good and pleasant for brethren to dwell together in unity. It is like the precious ointment upon the head…. (Ps 133:1-2). That precious ointment means Power. Return to the fellowship of God’s people and not to the circle of wrong people that will take you farther away from God. This is how to draw the Power of God on your life.
PRAYER: I declare you free from every wrong association that is depriving you of God’s Power, in Jesus name.
DAILY CONFESSION: This year 2024, I am advancing in adversity because I’ve been redeemed to flourish in hard times therefore my life shall be full of wonders. Amen and amen.
