TEXT: “And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar. In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee” (1Kings 3:4-5)

  • PRAYER: “Father, thank you because your Word has the power to transform. As I read today’s Morning Tea Devotional, let your Word penetrate my heart and mind, transforming my life into a better one, in Jesus name – Amen.”

Another reward of genuine thanksgiving is:

  • BLANK CHEQUE. The meaning of this is that God gives us opportunity to ask Him anything when we cultivate a lifestyle of thanksgiving. King Solomon, the third king of Israel, had just ascended to the throne after his father, King David, passed away. To express his gratitude to God for making him king, Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings to Him.

What are Burnt Offerings?

In those days, burnt offerings were a way to worship and thank God. Animals were sacrificed, and their bodies were completely burnt as an offering to God. This act demonstrated that the person was giving their best to God.

Solomon’s decision to offer a thousand burnt offerings showed that he was truly thankful to God. He wanted to honour God and show his appreciation for making him king.

God was pleased with Solomon’s act of thanksgiving. One night, God appeared to him in a dream and said, “Ask me for anything you want, and I will give it to you.” This was a special offer, a blank cheque that allowed Solomon to ask for anything he desired.

Similarly, when we sincerely express our appreciation to God this season, He will be pleased with us and will open more doors for us to receive our heart’s desires before the end of the year.
