PRAYING IN TONGUES

TEXT: For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries” (1Cor 14:2).

I want to start this morning with the word of Kenneth Copeland. He said: “The most important thing a man or woman of God can do in prayer is to pray in other tongues.” Praying in tongues makes tremendous power available. The early Church were a praying Church and they did great and mighty things through prayer. Even when they became very busy in ministry, they did not allow their busyness to get in the way of prayer.

They said: “Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:3-4).

The early Church understood that praying in tongues was the prayer that must be engaged. Praying in tongues was known to them as the prayer. They gave much time and attention to it. Prayer, especially in tongues, is a key to spiritual growth and sensitivity in the spirit. There is no way around it! If you want to grow in Power and have your needs met, you must pray in tongues often. Jesus was a Man of prayer, as was the apostle Paul. The early Church was birthed and based on prayer.

Praying in tongues is beneficial because it is the gateway into the spirit realm. There is a doorway into the realm of the spirit and it is through tongues. John said: “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day” (Rev 1:10). Praying in tongues is the key that unlocks the spirit world. As long as Satan can keep you away from tongues, he can keep you away from the miraculous. When you pray in tongues, you are automatically in the spirit. God is a Spirit, and when you start praying in tongues you are entering God’s zone.

Through tongues, you and I can have direct access to God. Our anchor scripture says: “…no one understandeth him.” This means Satan does not understand when you pray in tongues. He knows what you are doing, but he cannot understand what you are saying. He is helpless to sabotage your prayer. I often wonder how people say that praying in tongues is of the devil and yet Paul says that praying in tongues is talking to God. Through tongues, you and I have direct access to God.

PRAYER: The Lord is shifting your life up by the Power of the Holy Spirit this month and onwards, in Jesus name.
