TEXT: “And Moses laid up the rods before the LORD in the tabernacle of witness. And, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds” (Num 17:7-8).
Today is MTD Covenant Day of Mercy, a weekly event where we have the opportunity to approach God with our desires for release of answers. Today, as instructed by God, we are to present a point of contact for our businesses, careers, or ministries, drawn from the story of Aaron’s rod that budded.
This event occurred during the Israelites’ wilderness journey, sparked by Korah’s rebellion against Moses and Aaron’s authority. God responded with a miraculous validation of Aaron’s priesthood and Moses’ leadership, establishing the Levitical priesthood and foreshadowing Jesus Christ’s eternal priesthood. This divine intervention demonstrated God’s active presence and authority in Israel’s affairs.
What are the significance of this event and how relevant are they in today’s instruction?
- It symbolises Divine Selection: The budding of Aaron’s rod demonstrates God’s choice of Aaron and his descendants as the rightful priestly lineage. After the Levites’ authority was questioned, God instructed each tribe to present a rod; the one that budded would signify His chosen leader. Aaron’s rod not only budded, it produced blossoms, and yielded ripe almonds, clearly endorsing his divine selection. The implication is that, as you present your point of contact to God – whether to your business, career, or ministry; He will single you out by favour and prosper you in that area, in Jesus name.
- It is a symbol of Resurrection and Life: The budding of Aaron’s rod also symbolizes life emerging from death, showcasing God’s power to revive what seems lifeless. Is your business, career, or ministry appears to be barren, lifeless, with no tangible results? By the authority of God’s Word, today, life is coming back to that dead business, career, or ministry, in Jesus name.
- It symbolises Preservation: After the event, Aaron’s rod was kept in the Ark of the Covenant as a testimony to God’s choice and as a reminder to the Israelites of the consequences of rebellion against divine authority. Today, as you present a point of contact to your business, career, ministry, or any of your endeavours, they shall be under the preservation of the Almighty from today onwards, in Jesus name.
