TEXT: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Phil 4:6)

Satan uses anxiety or worry as you may wish to call it, as a weapon to rob people of their blessings. If you find yourself worrying or being anxious, God has provided a way of escape through His Word as contained in today’s anchor scripture.

  1. IN EVERY THING
The first instruction to the Philipians is “Be careful for nothing, but in every thing…” Beloved, if you will overcome anxiety, you must make God your constant companion, sharing every burden and joy with Him. God is deeply interested in your well-being and eager to help when you need one. You need to cast all your worries to Him, knowing He cares deeply for you (1Pet 5:7). And when you are feeling overwhelmed, remember He is always waiting for you to come to Him for rest and refuge (Read Matt 11:28-30).
  2. BY PRAYER
The next instruction is “by prayer and…” Prayer is the force we can engage that guarantees freedom from anxiety. Unfortunately, complaining has become a substitute for prayer for many. Beloved, don’t focus on telling God how big your problems are; instead, tell your problems how big God is. Complaining only serves to complicate and prolong the solution (Read Luke 18).
  3. SUPPLICATION
Another instruction is “…and supplication…” Supplication, which also means petition, requires that we make specific and definite requests. When you are praying, be specific, avoiding vague language or beating around the bush. And also remember to always back up your prayers with scriptures. Instead of generalizing, tell God exactly what you want Him to do (Read James 4:2-3).
  4. THANKSGIVING
The last instruction in today’s anchor scripture is “…with thanksgiving…” The reason you are worried is that you have forgotten God has handled similar issues in the past, either in your life or in someone else’s life. When you recall how God handled similar situations in your life or in the lives of others, you will find ample reasons to give Him thanks. Gratitude always unlocks the door to receiving answers and experiencing God’s supernatural intervention. If you have the attitude of gratitude, worry will fade away! Remember, your greatness is directly tied to your gratefulness.
