TEXT: “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Gen 12:3)
Understanding the purpose of a thing is what helps one to maximize the benefit thereof. God wants us His children to be blessed, but the question is, why does He want us blessed? We need to understand this. Myles Munroe of blessed memory said, “When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse of it is inevitable.”
The truth is, God wants to bless us basically so that we can be a blessing to others around us. God blesses you not for you to consume it on your lust but so you can be a blessing to others. You never get blessed anymore than you are committed to be a blessing.
Abraham was not only blessed, all the generations after him were blessed through him. God said to him: “…and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Gen 12:3). Abraham did not just have prosperity but he had prosperity with posterity.
Now, let me say this; God expects us to be a blessing to people with our material things because they are given to us by God as a blessing. What we have should not lead to entitlement but to generosity. “For we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world” (1Tim 6:7 – ESV). All things are from God; and He has given them to us for a purpose. I will like you to consider the purpose of your material things to either use them, share them with others or pass them on to better someone else’s life. That is the purpose for which they were given to you by God. Don’t just cling to things for the sake of having them.
Let me repeat: God did not and will not bless you with things (material and financial) so you can accumulate them. The life of a man does not consist in the abundance of things he has (Lk 12:15). You are not going to be blessed by God to be an accumulator but to be a distributor. He will bless you so that you can be a channel of blessing to others. Rise up to that responsibility today, and you will keep growing in His blessings.
PRAYER: The Lord shall empower you today to be a blessing more to people around you, in Jesus name.
