ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
“This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish” (James 3:15)
SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE:
“Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought” (1Cor 2:6)
PERSONAL PRAYER:
“Father, let your Word today shape my thinking and guide every decision I make, in Jesus name – Amen.”
The first kind of wisdom mentioned in the above anchor scripture that we want to examine is the earthly wisdom or the wisdom of the world. Earthly wisdom is the world’s way of thinking. It teaches people to pursue success outside God’s principles. The focus of earthly wisdom is usually money, fame, power, comfort, and self-interest.
For example, the people of the world may say, “If telling a lie will help you get the contract, go ahead.” But God’s Word says, “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord.” They may say, “Pay evil for evil, don’t let anyone take advantage of you.” But the Word of God teaches us to overcome evil with good. Earthly wisdom often produces temporary success, but it also brings guilt, broken relationships, and eventually destruction.
Beloved MTDians, we must be careful not to allow the wisdom of the world to shape our thinking and decisions. What the world considers wise may be contrary to God’s Word. Therefore, in every situation, we must choose to follow God’s principles, even when doing so is difficult or unpopular. So, think about one decision you are currently facing. Is your choice being influenced more by what the world says is wise or by what God’s Word says is right?
It is better to lose the approval of men than to lose our obedience to God. When God’s Word guides our decisions, we are protected from the destruction that earthly wisdom eventually brings.
PROPHETIC PRAYER:
My prayer is that godly wisdom will guide all your decisions this month and always, in Jesus name.
