ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
“You shall have no other gods before Me” (Exo 20:3)
PERSONAL PRAYER:
“Father, I ask that you speak to me again today through this Devotional, in Jesus name – Amen.“
Another reason while people experience closed heaven is idolatry. Idolatry is when you put something or someone above God. It is not always a statue as some think. It is often hidden. An idol can be money, work, relationships, comfort, or personal goals. When these things take the first place in our hearts, God is no longer first and when God is no longer first, challenges start to set in. A divided heart cannot receive the full blessings of God.
The story of Solomon is a perfect example of this. At the beginning of his reign, he loved God deeply, walked in obedience, and operated in divine wisdom, which positioned him as the richest and wisest king ever lived. But later in life, he allowed his heart to be drawn to other things, his wealth, his many wives, and foreign gods. Because of this divided heart, the fullness of God’s pleasure and guidance over his life was affected, and his later years were marked by many struggles.
Beloved, even if we pray or try to serve God, heaven will still be blocked if our attention is divided. The instruction in today’s anchor scripture is simple: “You shall have no other gods before Me.” This is one vital factor that keeps the heaven open over our lives.
If you will experience this continually, put God first in everything. Remove anything that competes with Him in your heart, and devote your time and energy to serving Him.
