THE WAY UP IS DOWN

TEXT: “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble” (James 4:6)

OPENING PRAYER: “Father, thank you because your Word has the power to transform. As I read today’s Morning Tea Devotional, let your Word penetrate my heart and mind, transforming my life and shaping my destiny, in Jesus name – Amen.”

Let’s continue from where we left off on Friday. As we discussed, if God will lift you up, you must be humble and avoid pride. A proud person will always experience a closed heaven. If your heaven is closed, you can’t enjoy promotion. You wouldn’t want the heavens above you to be shut, would you? If not, remember that the path to lifting is through humility. The way up is down.

And for those experiencing success gradually, remember that success can become suicidal if you don’t know how to handle it. The Bible says that pride goes before a fall (Prov 16:18). If you allow pride in your life because you’re climbing to the top, you’ll soon start falling. But I pray you won’t fall victim to this, in Jesus name. The Bible also says: “The fear of the Lord teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honour” (Prov 15:33).

You must realize that every good thing you have and will ever have is a gift from God. God is incredibly gracious and has given you so many things as gifts. But if He so desired, He could take these gifts away. The reality of this truth should bring you to your knees before the Lord at all times.

Remain humble and submissive to your leaders, to your parents and to elders if you will be lifted and remain so. Avoid talking to people with arrogance. Treat people with respect and dignity. Don’t boast about your achievements and wealth. Don’t look down on people because you are up there. Keep a low profile and keep pride and arrogance out of your life.

The way up beloved, is down. Humility is the way to the top and the secret to remaining there. He that pours water into the hands of another shall himself be honoured because another shall pour water into his hands. It is servanthood before mastership. You must be a disciple before you can become an apostle. Learn to serve no matter how God is blessing you. With this attitude, you will always enjoy lifting beyond limitations.

PRAYER: Grace to manifest the above qualities, is yours today, in Jesus name.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: “Humility is the way to the top and the secret to remaining there.”
