TEXT: “And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things” (Luke 10:41)
Anxiety is a tactic the devil employs to steal blessings from believers in Christ. When faith is weakened by anxiety, doubts and unbelief gain a foothold. This is illustrated in the biblical account of Jesus’ visit to Mary and Martha, where Mary prioritized sitting at Jesus’ feet, whereas Martha’s worries led to distraction and busyness.
Martha said in verse 40: “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?” She was anxious about serving.” But Jesus replied in verse 42: “Martha, Martha, you are ANXIOUS and TROUBLED about many things, but one thing is needful…” This means that a person who is anxious is prone to trouble. Jesus said, ‘One thing is necessary,’ implying that anxiety is unnecessary. Another word for ‘needful’ is ‘necessary.’ Had Martha chosen to sit at the feet of Jesus, she would have made the best choice. I encourage you to spend time with Jesus more than engaging in mere activities.
Satan is using anxiety to get the best of us today, and many are not doing what God wants them to do for this reason. Don’t be anxious about anything. If God is telling you to take a step, take it. If God wants you to move in a certain direction, He has already paved your path. All you have to do is walk in His way. He will take care of you! Give your anxiety to God in prayer and let Him lead you.
Anxiety does not add to life; it only subtracts from it (Matt 6:27). Avoid it at all costs! As you move forward with His instructions from now on, remember that whatever problems may arise on your path, if God leads you to it, He will lead you through it. Trust Him more and obey Him!
