TEXT: “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49)
This month of June 2024 is a month we shall receive Power to bring forth our dreams, visions, aspirations and the hidden greatness in us.
Power is essential in our journey in life. This is why Jesus told the disciples in Acts of the Apostles chapter 1 verse 8: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” If you look at this portion of the Bible closely, you will agree with me that the sole assignment of the disciples was to take the gospel to the end of the earth. But there was an instruction given to them by the Lord Jesus in today’s anchor scripture if this assignment was going to be fulfilled. The instruction was: “Tarry in Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
What is the significance of this instruction?
- Tarrying in this context connotes waiting. If they will fulfill the purpose for their existence, they must wait to be endued with Power. The truth is that we live in a generation where everybody is in haste, in a hurry. Nobody wants to wait. But the Bible says in Prov 28:20 that: “A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that makest haste..shall not be innocent.” Beloved, if you will and must operate in Power, don’t be in a hurry, learn to tarry with God. The Bible says those who are in haste will not be innocent. This is why we have fake powers on our altars today.
- Tarrying also connotes fasting. This is what David meant when he said: “…my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is…To see thy power oh God” (Psalms 63:1-2). You cannot operate in Power when you are lazy to fast. Jesus said: “This kind (of power) can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting” (Mark 9:29).
Beloved, if you don’t want to operate in counterfeit power as it is in many lives and places today, then, be in the waiting room of God, engage in prayer and fasting and the genuine power of God from on high shall rest on you to fulfill your life’s purpose.
PRAYER: Grace to tarry till the Power drops is yours today, in Jesus name.
DAILY CONFESSION: This year 2024, I am advancing in adversity because I’ve been redeemed to flourish in hard times therefore my life shall be full of wonders. Amen and amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: “If you will and must operate in power, don’t be in a hurry, learn to tarry with God.”
