TEXT: “Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble” (Psalms 41:1)
It is giving that facilitates the release of God’s blessings on our life. The Bible is full of examples of people whose giving lifestyles provoked the release of unusual blessings in their lives. The Bible says: “A man’s gift maketh room for him and bringeth him before great men” (Pro18:16). The New Living Translation puts it this way: “Giving a gift works wonders; it may bring you before important people!” Gift is what you give to benefit another person. This act has the capacity to bring blessing to you.
There are three type of giving that guarantee blessings that I want to point out:
(1) PROPHETIC OFFERING
This is blessing men of God with your gifts. The widow of Zarephath and the Shunamite woman were blessed with abundance and fruitfulness respectively by reason of what they gave to prophets of God – Elijah and Elisha (Read 1Kings 17:10-24; 2Kings 4:1-37). The acts of kindness they showed to the Prophets provoked God’s kindness towards them and their blessings were released.
(2) GIVING TO THE POOR
The poor in this context is someone who is in need. When you give to someone in need, you are provoking the blessing of God upon your life without knowing. The Bible says: “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again” (Pro 19:17). You have them all around you. If you notice their needs and you have the capacity, give to them instead of using their situation to mock them.
(3) GIVING TO YOUR PARENTS
Many are shying away from this responsibility. They believe that their parents are the reason behind their problems the reason they don’t give to them. They never knew that their negligence to take care of their parents is the reason for their problem. Your gift to your parents irrespective of their wealth or wickedness can provoke the blessing of God on your life.
PRAYER: The Lord shall raise you and make you a blessing to people around you from today, in Jesus name.
